The east coast doesn’t seem to be able to dig out of the snow this winter, but that forecast might suit people in places where the snow never falls. That’s the concept JetBlue is promoting with its ‘Flip the Forecast’ challenge.
The airline wants people to tell them, through an Instagram video, why they need to get to a place where the forecast is different from their current one. Using the hashtag #FlipTheForecast, potential travelers are tasked to create a video telling JetBlue which city they live in and why they need to flip their forecast. It could be someone in Massachusetts longing to get away from the cold, or someone in Arizona eager to build a snowman. It just needs to be a different climate. Winners of the contest will get two roundtrip tickets on JetBlue.
To promote the contest, which ends March 18, JetBlue parked branded Airstream trailers in two drastically different locales, Boston and San Diego, connecting customers at each destination through a livestream video experience.
Participants on both ends had a chance to win a pair of roundtrip tickets to the opposite location. The catch was that to successfully ‘Flip the Forecast’ each person had to convince the other and agree to swap locations with the other. While many agreed to do it, resulting in Boston residents jumping with glee in their heavy boots and parkas, some San Diego residents weren’t wild about visiting the Northeast during winter, electing to stay in the land of sun and sand.
The contest is also a promotion for the JetBlue Card, the airline’s credit card that helps give JetBlue travelers points and benefits.
