Allan Rennie, the managing director and editor-in-chief of Trinity Mirror's Scottish publishing business, will leave his post next week.

A 24-year veteran of Trinity Mirror, Rennie was made managing director of its Media Scotland arm, which counts the Daily Record and Sunday Mail among its titles, in 2014. He will leave on 28 March and will not be replaced.

Rennie’s departure comes in the same month that the Daily Record’s editor-in-chief, Murray Foote, stepped down after four years in the role.

David Dick, the digital editor promoted to replace Foote, will now have “full editorial independence and control of our Scottish national titles and websites,” a Trinity Mirror spokesperson told The Drum.

In a statement, Rennie said: “I am so proud to have worked with so many talented people in Scotland and across the group over the last 24 years.

“I loved my time at Media Scotland, overseeing the best national and local titles in the land and the launch of exciting new sites such as GlasgowLive. I would like to thank all my colleagues at Trinity Mirror for their support – and wish them all the best for the future.”

Trinity Mirror described Rennie’s departure as being part of an “organisational restructure” for Media Scotland.

The Scottish reporting lines which Rennie presided over, such as finance and circulation, will now report directly into Trinity Mirror’s group finance and circulation departments, its spokesperson explained.

Simon Fox, chief executive of Trinity Mirror, said: "Allan has had a distinguished career at Trinity Mirror over the past 24 years. He edited the Daily Record and Sunday Mail and served as editorial director for our national titles.

"I am enormously grateful to Allan for his leadership of the business and wish him every future success."

Rennie’s departure is the latest in a string of recent changes at Trinity Mirror, which acquired The Express and Star newspapers in February and has subsequently announced plans to rebrand itself as Reach.
