Google has launched a Google News Initiative Training Network in India in partnership with BoomLive, DataLeads and Internews to help journalists fight fake news.

The training network will provide an in-depth and verification training to 8000 journalists across English and six other Indian languages over the next one year.

As part of the program, 200 journalists will be selected from cities across India for a five day train-the-trainer boot camp where they will be trained by fact-checkers like First Draft, Storyful, AltNews, BoomLive, Factchecker.in and DataLeads.

"When journalists and communities work together, armed with the online tools to verify information, they can build a bulwark of trusted media to fight the tide of misinformation," said Irene Jay Liu, News Lab lead at Google APAC

The training workshops will be conducted in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Kannada in cities across India.
