The new Las Vegas resort from MGM Resorts and Sydell Group, Park MGM, is going Hollywood in the shortest fashion possible. Las Vegas Love Stories is a collection of feature films made in partnership with creative agency, Virtue, Academy Award-winner Michel Gondry and critically acclaimed director, Olivier Gondry.
Each of the six films follows a different couple over the course of the same night, as roller coasters, kaleidoscopes and bumper cars fulfill fated fantasies otherwise unseen on The Strip. Despite a running time of just 8.2 seconds each, the films follow the same lifecycle as a traditional theatrical release – starting with billboards on Sunset Blvd, a full-length trailer and an IMDB hub.
While Las Vegas Love Stories depicts whimsical and surreal romance, the concept is rooted in the recent finding that due to our lifestyles of digital excess, the human attention span has hit an all-time low of eight seconds, very nearly the same amount of time that scientists say it takes to fall in love – 8.2 seconds.
The films are mere snippets – short windows into people’s love lives, be they straight, gay, interracial, a trio or just a bit of fun all around.
Michel Gondry explaied: “We decided on a story that would encompass all the films. Then we treated each segment like its own film, sometimes forgetting about the ensemble.”
Olivier Gondry added: “I like to work touch by touch, making things better each time we add something new. This time, it would be Michel’s touch then my touch, then Michel’s, then mine and so on.”
Park MGM and Virtue worked with the iconic directors to put their signature storytelling style of playful surrealism to the test of time. Swapping Las Vegas’ reputation for overindulgence for subtlety, sophistication and romance, the movies were shot entirely in and around Park MGM resort in Las Vegas.
"Within a city built around creating dreams and experiences worthy of aspiring to, we wanted Park MGM's introduction to the world to be thoughtful, imaginative, a bit whimsical and to spark conversation. The Gondry Brothers' ability to accomplish all of that within 8.2 seconds is both gorgeous and mind-boggling,” said Patrick Miller, president and chief operating officer, Park MGM.
