eBay has agreed to buy the website Motors.co.uk to transform it into an ad site for cars to rival AutoTrader.
As part of the acquisition, currently Cox Automotive owned Motors.co.uk will merge into eBay owned classified ad site, Gumtree UK. The deal is expected to be completed by early next year.
As per eBay, the combined group will offer more than 620,000 car listings, against Auto Trader's 500,000.
Gumtree UK general manager Matt Barham said: ‘This acquisition would finally present a viable car selling and shopping alternative for car dealers and buyers.
"By combining Motors.co.uk's extensive inventory, dealer engagements, traffic and cutting-edge tools and services with the considerable audience of in-market car buyers provided by eBay and Gumtree, this acquisition would give UK car dealers a significantly broader reach."
