For a day, Lenovo re-jiggered its name to become 'Love On' to celebrate the launch of its new charitable foundation.

Lenovo announced the formal start of the foundation yesterday (22 October), which will focus on STEM education and empowering diverse and under-resourced populations.

Yolanda Conyers, president of the Lenovo Foundation, said in a statement the name-change encapsulates the mission of the company's new philanthropic arm.

"For Lenovo, our message to Love On means using our core strengths- diversity and innovation- to benefit the world around us. Connecting underserved populations to technology and education ensures growth of diversity and ultimately helps all of humanity move forward," Conyers said.

Lenovo shared a video of employees rolling up to their newly-branded offices to help spread the message.

Nobody is bemoaning the goals of the new foundation, but some are hating on the marketing move behind it.

Though some are critical, Lenovo is moving forward with a Love On grant round – mini-grants that will be available to companies worldwide with ideas on how to increase access to technology for diverse and under-resourced people.
