Liverpool Football Club will start providing free women's sanitary products to help combat period poverty.
Beginning during Liverpool's next home game on 11 November, women's bathrooms at Anfield will have either 'free-vend' machines or baskets of items to provide crucial amenities to those in need, according to a statement from the team.
Period poverty is the inability to properly take care of menstrual needs due to lack of affordability. An estimated one in 10 girls and young women in the UK are impacted, according to the statement.
Liverpool HR director Daniel Gallo said the organization wanted to do its part to help women in need.
"Free sanitary items will now be available in all female toilets, in all stands at Anfield, at every home game going forward, and supporters can take whatever they need. Menstruation is also still quite a taboo subject, so we hope that talking about it and raising awareness of these issues will help to end period poverty for good," said Gallo.
This initiative supports On the Ball, a campaign founded by three students aiming to help end period poverty.
"By supporting our campaign and supplying free period products, LFC are showing what a forward-thinking and inclusive club they are," said On the Ball's Mikaela McKinley. "The support we have received for our campaign, from both club and fans, has been absolutely fantastic."
Liverpool's endeavor follows similar successful trials at Manchester City, Red Star Belgrade and Cardiff City fixtures.
