Pete Cashmore, chief executive and founder of Mashable, will be leaving the digital media and entertainment website at the end of the year, according to a company statement.
Cashmore recently updated his Twitter and LinkedIn biographies to say, "Now: Taking some time off and working on something new."
Mike Finnerty, general manager of Ziff Davis Tech, which owns Mashable, shared in a statement that the company is grateful for Cashmore's contributions over the years.
“Pete Cashmore will be leaving Mashable at the end of the year. We’re grateful for his vision and thank him for the critical role he played during a time of transition. The Mashable brand is thriving under SVP and Editor-in-Chief Jessica Coen, and I’m confident in our continued success," said Finnerty.
Ziff Davis Tech bought Mashable at the end of last year, which was followed by worldwide layoffs.
