12 years after Irn-Bru first co-opted the classic Christmas story of The Snowman to promote the Scottish staple, the festive favourite has returned to screens with a sequel.
Irn-Bru owner AG Barr has re-run its original ad for more than decade. The first spot is also set to 'Walking in the Air' and styled similarly to Raymond Brigg's saccharine picture book and animation. The lyrics vary slightly though and at the end of Irn-Bru's first masterpiece the unforgiving Snowman steals the little boy's can of juice and let's go of his hand – abandoning him in Glasgow's snowy George Square.
The long-awaited sequel, which was teased earlier this week, picks up where we left off showing the the determined little boy tyring to swipe back his Irn-Bru.
He hops in a propeller plane and chases the devious snowman over Scottish landmarks including the SSE Hydro, the Kelpies, Dundee's new V&A museum and Edinburgh Castle. In a dark twist of fate, just as he's about to snag back his beloved Irn-Bru, Santa swoops down on a sleigh and pinches it - leaving both the snowman and boy riled.
'And now it's with St Nick and heading to Lapland...' laments the boy.
The spot was created by Irn-Bru's longstanding ad agency, Leith. It screened during X-Factor on Saturday (1 December).
