Deisgn agency Sunshinegun looked to Mozambique, the birthplace of Nando's PERi-PERi flavouring - to promote its new crockery range.

Keen to incorporate the colours, architecture and art found in the country's capital, Maputo, the collection references Mozambique's rich history and is heavily influenced by both African and Portuguese design and culture.

“We wanted to bring the vibrancy of Mozambique, the birthplace of Nando’s PERi-PERi, to life,” says Bronwen Rautenbach, Sunshinegun's creative partner and co-founder. “We sent, Simps and Nolo, two young designers with an eye for patterns and a spirit for adventure, to Mozambique to bring a real Southern African story to the new crockery.”

The results is a feast of colours, textures and shapes. Now, when you eat your favourite Nando’s meal, anywhere in the world you’re instantly transported to the home of Nando’s PERi-PERi in Maputo.

The designers headed to Maputo to learn more about its Art Deco, Tropical Modernist and Expressionist style. They took over 1,500 photographs of the architecture so that they could digitise the kaleidoscope of patterns and weave them into the crockery utensils.

Now consumers can be instantly transported to Nando’s PERi-PERi hometown of Maputo while feasting at the fast food chicken chain.
