Feline welfare charity Cats Protection has awarded its social media marketing retainer to social specialists Immediate Future, following a competitive pitch process.

Cats Protection is the UK’s largest charity of its kind, helping around 200,000 cats each year through its national network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 centres.

Gemma Croker, social media manager at Cats Protection, said: “We’re a small team here and staying abreast of the constant changes in social media can be challenging. Social’s increased reliance on ‘moving’ content is another battle requiring more and more resource that we don’t have in-house. With this appointment, we now have experts on-hand whenever things change, like the recent Facebook algorithm update!”

Cats Protection's social profiles will focus on the charity’s key messaging areas: education on cat welfare, neutering, and re-homing.

Katy Howell, chief executive at Immediate Future, said: “While cats and kittens seem like the perfect fit for social, the challenge is in marrying the messaging with standout creative. There are so many pictures of cats online, creative needs to jump-out in feed and messages need to sing. We’re relishing the opportunity to challenge our creative thinking and marketing skills to deliver cut-through among all the noise on cats.”

Based in Kingston upon Thames, Immediate Future has 14 years’ experience as an independent social media consultancy, working with clients including the BBC, Diageo, Sony, Jacamo and Asos.
